In this context, our workmate Katarzyna Karasińska, in her article published in Electric & Hybrid Marine Technology International, introduces innovative solutions from Ampros, describing the developed by Ampros the REx Range Extenders series.
The key components of a series hybrid drive include an electric motor, a battery bank, power distribution units, and a range extender—a diesel generator with variable RPM that delivers direct current (DC) directly to the system. Katarzyna emphasizes that REx, as a core element of the hybrid system, plays a pivotal role in achieving high performance and longer ranges with significantly reduced carbon footprint.
The article highlights the REx 390, Ampros' flagship model. Its standout features include quiet operation, high energy efficiency, and an exceptionally lightweight design. Generating power at voltages up to 850V and with reduced generator weight making REx a one-of-a-kind solution on the market. Unlike conventional systems, where generators run continuously, REx allows for use when its needed, significantly reducing fuel consumption.
